The Panama hat - known from film and television

Since 1630, the world-famous Panama straw hats have been hand-woven in Ecuador from the fibers of the Toquilla palm. A worker spends almost 8 hours of pure craftsmanship on a Panama straw hat.  

The famous hat owes its name to Theodore Roosevelt, who wore such a hat in 1906 when visiting construction work on the Panama Canal.
